Terms of Service

Effective date: 1 March 2026 — Last updated: March 2026

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of newsata.com and the Newsata mobile application, operated by Newsata Limited (“Newsata”, “we”, “us”). Please read them carefully. By creating an account or using the platform, you agree to be bound by these Terms.

1. The Newsata platform

Newsata is a Nigeria-focused job platform that provides:

  • Job listings sourced directly from employers
  • Salary data contributed by Nigerian employees
  • Company profiles and employee reviews
  • Application tracking that notifies candidates when employers open their CV
  • AI-powered CV and cover letter generation tools
  • Interview question databases by company and role
  • Study-abroad programme and scholarship listings

We reserve the right to add, modify, or discontinue any feature at any time with reasonable notice where feasible.

2. Eligibility and account registration

To register on Newsata you must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Provide a valid email address and accurate profile information
  • Not have been previously banned from Newsata for a Terms violation

Employers must additionally represent a legally registered business or organisation. We may request company registration documents during the verification process.

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us immediately at support@newsata.com if you suspect unauthorised access.

3. Job seeker obligations

As a job seeker, you agree to:

  • Submit only genuine applications — do not apply to listings you have no intention of pursuing
  • Provide truthful and accurate information in your profile, CV, and applications
  • Not create multiple accounts or impersonate another person
  • Treat employer contacts with professional courtesy
  • Report suspected scam listings rather than sharing them elsewhere

Salary data you contribute must reflect genuine compensation you have personally received or can verify. Fabricating salary data undermines the community and your account may be suspended.

4. Employer obligations

As an employer, you agree to:

  • Post only genuine, currently available vacancies
  • Provide accurate job descriptions, requirements, and compensation ranges
  • Not request payment, bank details, or financial information from applicants
  • Comply with all applicable Nigerian labour laws, including the Labour Act (Cap. L1, LFN 2004) and anti-discrimination provisions
  • Respond to applications within a reasonable time — we promote transparency and expect employers to use the platform responsibly
  • Not use candidate data obtained through Newsata for purposes beyond evaluating their application for the specific role posted

Employers who ghost candidates systematically — view CVs with no response over extended periods — may have their verified status reviewed or their listings suspended. Our anti-ghosting mission applies to both sides of the table.

5. Prohibited conduct

The following are strictly prohibited on Newsata:

  • Posting fraudulent job listings, pyramid schemes, or multi-level marketing “opportunities” as employment
  • Scraping, crawling, or data-mining any part of the platform without written consent
  • Using automated bots or scripts to submit applications or interact with listings
  • Attempting to bypass our verification, rate-limiting, or security systems
  • Uploading malicious code, malware, or files designed to compromise user devices
  • Harassing, threatening, or abusing other users
  • Sharing another user's personal data without their consent
  • Using the platform in any way that violates Nigerian law or applicable international law

6. Application tracking and anti-ghosting

Newsata's application tracking feature records when an employer opens a candidate's application. This is a core transparency feature, not optional infrastructure. By posting a job on Newsata, employers acknowledge and consent to this tracking being disclosed to applicants.

Tracking confirms a view occurred — it does not constitute a promise of response, interview, or offer. Newsata is not liable for employer decisions made after viewing an application.

7. Salary data

Salary figures on Newsata are crowd-sourced and community-verified. They represent reported compensation at the time of submission and may not reflect current market rates. Newsata:

  • Does not guarantee the accuracy of any salary figure
  • Aggregates and anonymises salary data before display to protect contributor privacy
  • Removes outliers and suspected fabrications through algorithmic and manual review

Salary data is provided for informational purposes only. Newsata is not responsible for employment or negotiation decisions made in reliance on this data.

8. AI-powered tools

Our AI features (CV generation, cover letter drafting, ATS scoring) are tools to assist you — not to replace your professional judgment. By using them, you acknowledge:

  • AI-generated content may contain errors, hallucinations, or outdated information
  • You are responsible for reviewing and verifying all AI output before submitting it to employers
  • Submitting AI-generated content that contains false information about your qualifications is a breach of these Terms
  • AI credits are consumed on generation — we do not refund credits for outputs you are unsatisfied with

9. Billing and subscriptions

Certain Newsata features require a paid subscription or credit purchase. All prices are displayed in Nigerian Naira (NGN) inclusive of any applicable taxes.

  • Payments are processed by Paystack and subject to their terms of service
  • Subscriptions renew automatically on their billing cycle unless cancelled before the renewal date
  • AI credits are non-transferable and expire 12 months after purchase
  • We do not offer refunds for consumed credits or elapsed subscription periods
  • If a billing error occurs on our side, we will credit your account promptly

To cancel a subscription, go to your Dashboard → Settings → Billing, or emailsupport@newsata.com.

10. Intellectual property

Newsata owns all intellectual property in the platform — including the codebase, design system, aggregated salary datasets, and editorial content we produce. You may not reproduce, redistribute, or create derivative works from our content without written permission.

Content you upload — your CV, profile text, salary contributions — remains yours. By uploading it, you grant Newsata a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, display, and (where you have consented) share it with relevant employers. This licence ends when you delete the content or close your account.

11. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

Newsata provides the platform “as is” without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that:

  • Job listings are accurate, current, or free from fraud
  • Employers will respond to applications
  • The platform will be available without interruption
  • AI-generated content will be error-free or suitable for any specific purpose

To the maximum extent permitted by Nigerian law, Newsata's total liability to you for any claim arising from use of the platform shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 3 months preceding the claim. We are not liable for indirect, consequential, or punitive damages.

12. Account suspension and termination

We may suspend or permanently terminate your account if you:

  • Violate any provision of these Terms
  • Engage in fraud, abuse, or harassment
  • Post content that exposes Newsata or other users to legal liability

Where possible, we will warn you before taking action and give you an opportunity to respond. For serious violations (fraud, scam listings, data theft), we may act immediately without prior notice.

You may close your account at any time from Settings → Account → Delete Account. Active subscriptions should be cancelled before account deletion.

13. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as our platform evolves. We will notify registered users by email at least 14 days before material changes take effect. If you continue to use Newsata after the effective date, you accept the updated Terms. If you disagree, you may close your account before the changes apply.

14. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Any dispute arising from or in connection with these Terms shall first be referred to good-faith negotiation for 30 days. If unresolved, disputes shall be submitted to the jurisdiction of the Federal High Court of Nigeria, Lagos Division.

Nothing in these Terms limits your rights under applicable Nigerian consumer protection legislation, including the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act (FCCPA) 2018.
