Overview

Responsibilities

• Supervise professionals responsible for evaluating small businesses, individual enterprises, partnerships, estates, and trusts.
• Conduct thorough inquiries and field investigations into taxpayer affairs to identify non-compliance, tax evasion, or fraud.
• Examine tax returns, initiate additional assessments when necessary, and ensure a consistent application of tax laws and regulations.
• Lead teams in executing field tax audits and meticulously reviewing companies' financial records.
• Follow up on disputed cases through appeal procedures and represent the Service when required.
• Provide on-the-job training and capacity-building opportunities for Tax Officers.
• Address complaints and representations from taxpayers and their representatives in a professional manner.
• Prepare comprehensive investigation reports, case files, and actionable recommendations for management.
• Collaborate with other departments (Legal, Audit, Intelligence) on complex tax investigation cases.
• Contribute to the development of policies and enhancements in tax investigation processes.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accounting, Taxation, Finance, Economics, Law, or a closely related field with at least Second Class Lower Division or Lower Credit is required.
• A Master’s degree or recognized professional certifications (e.g., ICAN, CITN, ACCA) will be considered an added advantage.
• Candidates should have a minimum of relevant post-qualification experience as specified in the current Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) advertisement, typically involving several years in tax administration, audit, or investigation.
• Completion of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) is mandatory and must occur no later than the date specified in the advert (e.g., 31 December of the previous year).
• Age Requirement: Applicants must not be older than 40 years as of 31 December of the application year (specifically for Assistant Manager level positions).
• Candidates should possess strong knowledge of Nigerian tax laws, regulations, and the local business environment.
